A Song for Emuna: Chemdi Romer's Tribute to Her Daughter
Almost three years ago, Chemdi Romer lost her daughter, Emuna. Two weeks later, she sat down and wrote a song for her.
She didn't share it right away. For a long time, the song stayed hers alone. This October, during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, Chemdi decided she was ready to let others hear it.
This Time He Said No
Chemdi released This Time He Said No on October 15, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. It's the day families around the world set aside to remember the babies they carried and lost, and it felt like the right moment for Emuna's song.
She also chose to dedicate the release to NechamaComfort. Her hope is that the song brings some comfort to parents who are grieving, helps more people understand what pregnancy and infant loss really feel like, and encourages listeners to support the families who are living through it.
This song features a female vocalist and is shared for women.
If you're listening through your own loss
If you've been through a miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of an infant, you may hear parts of your own story in Chemdi's song. That can be comforting, and it can also be painful. Both reactions are completely normal.
There's no right time to listen. You might want to wait until you're somewhere private, or until you have someone with you. You might decide it isn't for you right now, and that's okay too.
Grief after a loss doesn't follow a schedule, and it doesn't simply go away. It changes over time, and the love you have for your baby stays with you. You don't have to carry it by yourself.
